About This Event
So you want to write the big story? Take photos no one will forget? Produce reports and podcasts that get attention? How do you do it? Award-winning journalists Rick Earle of WPXI-TV, Steve Mellon of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Ashley Murray of the Post-Gazette, and Julia Fraser of Pittsburgh Quarterly discuss how they produced pieces as part of teams that won regional journalism awards in 2018. Join us to hear them discuss ..... "Life and Death on Santron Avenue," a visual interactive by Steve Mellon and Stephanie Strasburg, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "Three Rivers, Two Mysteries," a podcast by Michael A. Fuoco and Ashley Murray, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "School Failures: Fire Drills," a WPXI-TV investigative report by Lauren Silver, Rick Earle, and Kellie Burkett. "Up in the Air," a report in Pittsburgh Quarterly by Jeffery Fraser, Mike Wereschagin and Julia Fraser. The event is open to the public. Meet the newsmakers behind the stories and ask them questions. Judges selected their work as best-in-show winners in their respective categories in the 2018 Golden Quill awards, a journalism competition for those in Western Pennsylvania, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Sponsored by the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania and the Center for Media Innovation at Point Park University.
