About This Event

Cost: $150 When: February 11, 2019 Strategies That Work: Engaging Students in Mathematical Discourse Research strongly supports that students develop better mathematical understanding when they talk about the concepts that are being addressed in the classroom.  Questioning about the math being presented and discussing that math engages the students' thinking processes.  One strategy that has proven to be successful in engaging students' minds about math concepts is the NOTICE & WONDERINGS strategy.  When: students become curious about the math,  they are willing to take the risk of expressing their ideas about the math,  they engage in more flexible thinking about the math, the outcome is better student understanding of the math concepts that are being taught.   The Notice & Wondering strategy supports that type of engagement. This full day session is designed to provide in-depth training on why the strategy works and how to effectively use the strategy in the math classroom.  Hear about the successes that educators have had when using the strategy!! Educators who attend should bring the math lesson plans that they have designed for the week ahead. Participants will leave with a plan that will help to increase student achievement in mathematics. The cost for this professional development experience is $150.00 (covers material cost).   Date: February 11, 2019 Time and Location:  9 AM- 3 PM at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit
