About This Event

On February 27 from 9:30am-12pm the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and Allegheny County Library Association are hosting A Morning with Sharon Flake. Sharon Flake is the author of young adult books. Her debut novel The Skin I'm In is celebrating 20 years. About the Book: Maleeka suffers every day from the taunts of the other kids in her class. If they're not getting at her about her homemade clothes or her good grades, it's about her dark, black skin. When a new teacher, whose face is blotched with a startling white patch, starts at their school, Maleeka can see there is bound to be trouble for her too. But the new teacher's attitude surprises Maleeka. Miss Saunders loves the skin she's in. Can Maleeka learn to do the same? Our event will include a keynote address by Sharon Flake, a battle of the book (The Skin I'm In) and a breakout session presented by Avonworth students and Ms. Maureen Frew where they will share their project #bethekindkid. This event is for middle school students and there is no fee to attend. Registrations are limited to 10 per school but we may be able to open more seats depending on availability.
